2014 CUSA Football Schedule Finalized

UTSA Schedule

There it is boys and girls. Time start saving pennies and checking for cheap flights. The 2014 UTSA Schedule is official. There is a lot to like about this schedule.

FIU (Oct. 11), UTEP (Oct. 25th), and Southern Miss (Nov. 15th) were the dregs of the conference last year. Getting all 3 at home is very nice, and they all are must win games. UNT at home (Nov. 29th) on Thanksgiving weekend is best case scenario for us. A “rivalry” type game on a weekend that has typically been very good to us. Could be a game to determine the West Championship. CUSA did us a huge solid on that one. Love it. Finishing 4 and 0 at home is very doable, and pretty important.

The reason winning conference games at home becomes so important for us is that the conference road games are noticeably tougher. After 3 pretty brutal non conference games to start the season (@Houston, Arizona, @OKST) we get a bye week before traveling to Boca Raton to play a rapidly improving FAU team (Sept. 27th). LaTech (Oct. 18th) and Rice (Nov. 8th) are two roadies we’ve made before. Also 2 roadies that ended in defeat for us. LaTech is a team we should be favored to beat this coming season. Rice, to me is a tossup. 0-2 against them in our short history and with Rice being the defending CUSA champion makes the Rice road trip one that I’ll have circled on my calendar.

The final road game is where we get our only real surprise. We get to travel to Bowling Green for what appears to be a CUSA West showdown with CUSA newbie Western Kentucky (Nov. 22nd). Most of the talk centered on UAB heading West, but it appears the new guy gets that assignment. WKU is the better football program. Which makes the road trip that much tougher.

The Good: A very manageable home slate. UNT as our post Thanksgiving matchup. First bye week coming in week 3. FIU as our Eastern home opponent. Boca Raton

The Bad: FAU on the road, Western Kentucky on the road instead of UAB.

The Ugly: Having to wait almost 9 months for UTSA Football.
